I shot this project before the pandemic and I finally had time to edit it during the downtime. I met Matthew while casting for another project. He had such a great energy about him, I built a project around him. This past year I’ve been challenging myself to do some test shoots with interesting people where it's just myself and the subject... no crew, simple equipment, just two folks collaborating for a few hours and staying flexible creatively. It’s such a great exercise in returning to the basics of storytelling, light, composition... as well as being present with the magic of serendipity that can unfold when there is space for it. We shot this video in one long evening, the key setup in studio and the b-roll on Venice Boardwalk in L.A. I was a one-man crew: lighting, audio, camera work, and eventually the editing and color grade.
