Behind-the-scenes (BTS) stories are the ultimate exercise in self-promotion. They challenge a photographer to take their skills they use on a daily basis making other people's products and services look great and apply it to themselves.
Every week, we'll showcase one of our member's BTS stories. These stories might showcase the attention to detail that a photographer gives to their client or a tool to convey their own personality and confidence — both of these traits are a must when dealing with agencies and clients. The stories can also show the vast amount of time and preparation that go into producing a large shoot.
This week's BTS showcase: Alexander Khokhlov
Since 2012, Alexander has specialized in conceptual portraiture. He has created several projects based on photography and complex make-up, such as Weird Beauty, 2D or not 2D, Wild Soldiers, Humiforms. These photos combine graphics, minimalism, work with shapes and optical illusions. Many of Alexander's projects are worldwide-known and could be named as his landmarks. The photographer's works are used for the many exquisite interiors, including Hilton, Waldorf Astoria and Four Seasons hotels, Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas luxury ship. In 2017 Alexander's artworks were exposed at the famous Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago as a part of the Ctrl+P project.
Currently, Alexander and his team are engaged in the development and production of creative images for advertising campaigns, successfully cooperating with the advertising agencies. Thus, the SVA Zürich advertising campaign produced by Alexander's team in collaboration with the tbd. agency had a big impact and got many awards, including Communication Arts, Swiss Poster Award and Art Directors Club Switzerland.
